Awareness and perception of farmers about agrometeorological advisory services

Abstract

This study investigates the awareness and perception of farmers about Agrometeorological Advisory Services (AAS) in Katol and Narkhed block/tahsils of Nagpur district of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. AAS is designed to provide farmers with timely weather-related information and agricultural guidance to improve decision-making and enhance resilience to climate variability. Despite the potential benefits, the uptake of these services depends heavily on farmers' awareness and perception. Total 120 registered farmers from five villages of each block/tahsils were purposively selected by using simple random sampling method. The findings showed that more than half (56.67%) of the farmers expressed medium level of awareness towards agrometeorological advisory services. In case of perception above half (50.84%) of farmers had medium level of perception towards agrometeorological advisory services. The study highlights the need for increased outreach and education to improve farmer awareness and trust in agromet advisory services. Recommendations are provided for enhancing service delivery, including localized content, user-friendly formats, and integrating traditional knowledge with scientific advisories.
