Estimation of terrestrial carbon stock as influenced by mango orchard at Dhule region

International Journal of Research in Agronomy · 2024 · Vol. 7(9S) · pp. 498–503

Abstract

The present research investigation has been carried out at the Horticulture Farm, College of Agriculture, Dhule, throughout the years 2021-2022. The trial used a randomised block design, with nine treatments replicated three times. Treatments T1–T8 are plants taken from a 19-year-old orchard, whereas T9 is the control.T5 had a higher tree height (527.33 cm), while T8 had a higher diameter at breast height (88.39 cm), tree volume (3206.37 m2), above ground biomass (2180.33 kg tree-1), below ground biomass (566.89 kg tree-1), and total plant biomass (2757.8 kg tree-1), resulting in a higher accumulation of plant carbon (1373.61 kg tree-1). Higher total organic carbon (TOC) 0.94%, 0.83% and 0.58%, water soluble carbon (WSC) -173.15 mg kg-1, 150 mg kg-1 and 90.67 mg kg-1, soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC) 480.61 mg kg-1, 402.27 mg kg-1 and 318.31 mg kg-1, permanganate oxidizable soil carbon (POSC) 1213.50 mg kg-1,965.24 mg kg-1 and 798.40 mg kg-1, fulvic acid carbon 21.63 mg kg-1, 19.48 and 12.28 mg kg-1, humic acid carbon 13.70 mg kg-1, 11.22 mg kg-1, 7.75 mg kg-1, Soil organic carbon (SOC) stock content in mango orchard soil is 36.42 mg ha-1, 32.91 mg ha-1, 23.44 mg ha-1 recorded at the depth of 0-30 cm, 30-60 cm and 60-90 cm, respectively. On an average, 1116.31 kg tree-1 i.e. 111.63 t ha-1 plant carbon has been sequestered in 19 years old mango orchard.
