Heritability and gene action studies in okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]

Abstract

In order to examine the gene action for growth and yield of F1 and their parents, a set of 36 hybrids produced by 9 x 9 half diallel fashion along with nine parents were assessed in RBD with two replications during summer 2024. The study was conducted at Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, College of Agriculture, Latur, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani. Through an analysis of the heritability parameters, a variety of features were examined for each progeny and parent. The quantity of additive genetic variance was less than that of dominance variance for each character, indicating the prevalence of dominance variance (non-additive gene action) over additive variance for expression of the studied attributes.
