Study of osteogenic minerals in osteoporosis patients

Abstract

Background: Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by a reduction in bone mineral density and bone mass, or alterations in the structure and strength of bones. These changes can result in weakened bones, increasing the likelihood of fractures. The aim is to estimate the levels of serum calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D in osteoporotic patients. Methods: This observational study was conducted under the department of Biochemistry and Department of orthopedics at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital with 50 diagnosed cases of osteoporosis. Results: The results were analysed using appropriate statistical test. The data compiled were analysed with GraphPad InStat® 3 Statistical Software. In our study we found out the osteogenic minerals represented by calcium and phosphorus and vitamin D levels were significantly high than the normal values. Conclusion: From our study it can be concluded that the levels of serum calcium and vitamin D levels are reduced and serum phosphorus levels within the normal range in osteoporotic patients.
