Studies on carbon sequestration potential of farm grown Eucalyptus clones
Abstract
Due to its resilience to a variety of climatic and edaphic conditions as well as its use in the paper and pulp industry, Eucalyptus is one of the most commonly planted forest species in the world. The species productivity is higher when it rotates for only 6-7 years and it is the primary force behind the commercial and agricultural use of species in agroforestry. Superior clones are produced by Eucalyptus clonal trials at several areas, depending on the needs and performance. The goal of the current study was to assess the effectiveness of Eucalyptus clones being tested at Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam. At the age of three years, the growth indicators-GBH, Height, Basal area, Volume, and Total biomass-were estimated. For the aforementioned factors, the clones revealed substantial variations in Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam. The clone TNPL 191 reached a height of 13.40m at its tallest. The largest girth at breast height was measured by clone EC 4 (47.50 cm), while the clone TNPL 191 had the biggest basal area (18.75 m2 per ha), volume (96.72 m3 per ha), most above ground biomass (63.84 tons per ha), greatest below ground biomass (16.60 tons per ha), and the highest total biomass (80.44 tons per ha). Additionally, clone TNPL 191 had the highest carbon reserves at 40.24 tons per hectare.
