Population dynamics of cerambycid beetles in the Northern Western Ghats of Sindhudurg District (MS) India

Abstract

Cerambycidae is one of the most important Coleoptera families, with over 36,000 species identified under 5,000 distinct genera and 8 subfamilies.Cerambycidae comes from the Greek word "Cerambis," which means "horned beetle."The present research aims to study cerambycid diversity, distribution, and statistical analysis across different study sites.Because of their phytophagous nature, adults and larvae of these beetles cause tremendous economic loss.During the study, a total of 12 known species of longhorn beetles, as well as 5 unknown and unidentified species, were observed across fifteen different sites.The Shannon's diversity (H') value for the study area was calculated to be 1.919, indicating a good diversity of longhorn beetles.Furthermore, the Simpson's diversity (D1) value for the study area was 0.8059, suggesting a significant presence of longhorn beetles in the region.
