Integrating nano-urea in nitrogen management on growth and yield of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) under rainfed condition in North east India

Abstract

A field experiment entitled “Integrating Nano-Urea in Nitrogen Management on Growth and Yield of Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) under Rainfed Condition in North east India” was conducted on clay soils during rabi season, 2023 at the College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba, Imphal to evaluate the efficacy of nano-urea in nitrogen management of Rapeseed under rainfed condition. The initial soil of the experimental field was acidic with pH 5.24. With eight treatments and three replications, the experiment was set out using Randomized Block Design. Findings explored that integrating nano-urea in nitrogen management had significant effect on the growth, yield attributes and yield parameters of Rapeseed. The treatment T5 (75% RDN + Three foliar spray of nano-urea at branching, pre-flowering and siliqua development stage) recorded the maximum growth parameters including plant height, number of leaves per plant, number of branches per plant, fresh and dry weight of plant, yield attributes and yield including number of siliqua per plant, number of seeds per siliqua, seed and stover yield, which was at par with treatment T2 (100% Recommended Dose of Nitrogen). From this, we can conclude that applying three sprays of nano-urea can reduce the needed amount of nitrogen by up to 25% without compromising yield in Rapeseed.
