Abstract

This article reported on broadband mid-infrared luminescence in bismuth-borate glasses co-doped with Dysprosium and Erbium ions. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) curve were used to examine the structural properties and thermalstability of the Dysprosium/Erbium ion doped bismuth-borate glasses, which were made using a traditional melt-quenching approach. Evaluations were done on a number of physical characteristics, including density, molar volume, polaron radius, inter-ions distance, field strength and lanthanide ion concentration. To assess the spectroscopic characteristics of Dysprosium and Erbium ions, such as their radiative lifetime, branching ratio, and radiative transition probability, Judd-Ofelt theory was applied to the absorption spectra. Additionally, the energy transfer efficiency was determined and the time-resolved fluorescence decay behavior proved the existence of the energy transfer between the Dysprosium and Erbium ions, which is what causes the broadband luminescence. According to the current findings, bismuth-borate glass co-doped with erbium and dysprosium ions shows promise for use in tunable lasers and mid-infrared band luminous sources.
