Response of sulphur and iron levels on growth and yield of sweet corn

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during Zaid (Summer) season 2023 at the Crop Research Farm Department of Agronomy. The treatments consisted of three levels of sulphur (20, 30 and 40 kg/ha) and three levels of Fe (0.15%, 0.25% and 0.3%) along with recommended doses of nitrogen, potash and control (120-60-40 kg N-P-K/ha). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design replicated thrice with 10 treatments. The present investigation results revealed that application of 40 kg/ha sulphur with 0.3% Fe recorded highest plant height (167.21 cm), maximum plant dry weight (73.42 g/plant), crop growth rate (16.99), number of cobs per plant (1.93), number of rows per cob (16.2), number of grains per row (28.6), cob yield (6.17 t/ha) and green fodder (38.43). Maximum gross return (2,46,482.00 INR/ha), net return (1,81,205.13 INR/ha) and B:C ratio (2.77) were also obtained in the same treatment i.e. 40 kg/ha sulphur with 0.3% Fe in Sweet Corn crop.
