Effect of different straw powder and grain’s flour on mycelial growth of Giant mushroom (Macrocybe gigantea)
Abstract
Macrocybe gigantea (Giant mushroom) commonly known as Tricholoma giganteum, was reported for the first time in West Bengal. Macrocybe gigantea is an edible mushroom, which is lignocellulosic, tropical to sub-tropical. It can be cultivated in most tropical to sub-tropical parts of India, where it is locally named as “Boro dhoodh chattu” because it smells like dehydrated milk. In present investigation, effect of different Straw powder on the radial mycelial growth of Macrocybe gigantea in the potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium. Which was supplemented with different Straw powder supplements viz. wheat straw powder @ 5%, 10%, paddy straw powder @ 5%, 10%, maize straw powder @ 5%, 10% and sugarcane dry leaf powder @ 5%, 10% and effect of different grain’s flour on the radial mycelial growth of Giant mushroom (Macrocybe gigantea) the potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium was supplemented with grains flour viz. wheat flour @ 5%, 10%, paddy flour @ 5%, 10%, maize flour @ 5%, 10% and pearl millet flour @ 5%, 10%, while keeping the control without any supplement. In the observations, maximum radial mycelial growth were observed in sugarcane dry leaf powder @ 10% (89.50 mm) and wheat flour @ 10% (89.67 mm).
