Efficacy of selected insecticides and biopesticides against gram pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) on green gram, Vigna radiata (L) at Prayagraj

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted at the research plot of the Department of Entomology at Central Research Farm (CRF), Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj, during the Kharif season of 2023–24. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications and eight treatments, viz., Neem oil (10000 ppm) @ 0.5 ml/lit, NSKE 5% @ 5 ml/lit, Karanj oil (2%) @ 2 ml/lit, Metarizium anisopliae (1x108 spores/g) @ 5 gm/lit, Verticillium licanii (1x108 spores/g) @ 5 gm/lit, Beauveria bassiana (2x108 spores/ml) @ 2.5 ml/ha, chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC @ 0.3 ml/ha, and untreated control were used against pod borer (H. armigera) on green gram. At intervals of 15 days, each biopesticides were applied twice. Observations on the mean percent damage of pod borer were well recorded one day before each treatment, three, seven, and fourteen days after each spray on green gram. The outcomes showed that, in comparison to the control, the pest infestation greatly decreased in all of the insecticides and biopesticides. Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC was found to be the best and most economical treatment than remaining treatments, followed by Beauveria bassiana (2x108 spores/ml) (9.94%), Metarizium anisopliae (1x108 spores/g) (11.02%), Verticillium licanii (1x108 spores/g) (12.30%), Neem oil 10000 ppm (13.88%), Karanj oil 2% (15.04%), and NSKE 5% (15.39%). Among the treatments studied, the best and most economical treatment was Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC (1:2.56), followed by Beauveria bassiana (2x108 spores/ml) (1:2.42), Metarhizium anisopliae (1x108 spores/g) (1:2.13), Verticillium licanii (1x108 spores/g) (1:1.89), Neem oil 10000 ppm (1:1.9), Karanj oil 2% (1:1.87), and NSKE 5% (1:1.65) as compared to the control plot (1:0.77).
