Evaluation of bio-efficacy of fipronil 5% + buprofezin 20% SC against thrips and jassids in cotton

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the Kharif season of 2017-18 at Agricultural Research Station, Hagari, to evaluate the effectiveness of Fipronil 5% + Buprofezin 20% SC in managing the Thrips and Jassids in Cotton crop. Chlorpyriphos 50% + Cypermethrin 5%EC served as a check. The results indicated a significant reduction in both the population of thrips and jassids when this insecticide was applied. Fipronil 5% + Buprofezin 20% SC @ 125 + 500 g a.i/ harecorded least number of thrips and jassids which was on par with Fipronil 5% + Buprofezin 20% SC 75 + 300, 62.5 + 250, 50 + 200 and 37.5 + 150 g a.i./ha but superior with standard check and untreated control. Data on seed cotton yield indicated that higher seed cotton yield of 29.04 q ha-1 was recorded in Fipronil 5% + Buprofezin 20% SC @ 125 + 500 g a.i ha-1 followed by 75 + 300 (28.32 q/ha), 62.5 + 250 (27.63 q/ha), 50 + 200 (26.84 q/ha), which was at par with 37.5 + 150 g ai/ha (24.63 q/ha) and superior to standard checks. These findings highlight Fipronil 5% + Buprofezin 20% SC as a highly effective option for thrips and jassids management in cotton.
