The siddha poly-herbal formulation maantha mathirai standardized using contemporary pharmaceutical analytical techniques

Abstract

Siddha literature Sirorathana vaithiya boosham states that a multi-herbal combination called Maatha Mathirai contains Cuminum cyminum, Ferula asafoetida, Nigella sativa, Allium sativum, Trachyspermum ammi, Zingiber officinale, Piper nigrum, Piper longum, Acorus calamus, Terminalia chebula, Triantherma decandra, Phyla nodiflora, Perularia daemia, Leucas aspera, Mukia madaraspatana, Acalypha indica, Eclipta prostrata indication for Maantham, valippu (seizures), etc. By examining Maantha mathirai's physicochemical, microbiological, chromatographic, and biochemical characteristics as well as heavy metal, pesticide residue, and aflatoxins, this study aims to standardize the species. This will support maintaining the safety, purity, and quality of the product. This examination determined that the drug's physical-chemical properties, which reflect its purity and quality, are 13.99%, 2.30%, 33.29%, 7.53%, and 4.21 for total ash, acid insoluble ash, water soluble extractive, alcohol soluble extractive and pH. Based on the study results, it is assured that the test drug Maantha mathirai is free of microbiological contamination, heavy metal traces, pesticide residue toxicity, and aflatoxin toxicity.
