Evaluation of insecticides as a seed treatment against sucking pests in summer greengram
Abstract
Greengram is being reported with nearly 60 insect’s species among which the infestation of sucking pests causes maximum loss during crop periods. Several chemical pesticides have been recommended for management of sucking pests which lead to problems of residues in seeds, environmental contamination and insecticide resistance. However, their method of application reduces these consequences of agro chemicals and seed treatment is one of them. A field experiment was undertaken to assess the efficacy of insecticides as seed treatments against sucking pests in summer greengram during 2022 and 2023. The greengram variety GAM 5 was used and experiment was set up using a randomised block design with ten treatments and three replications. Seed treatments with imidacloprid 48% FS (10 ml/kg seed), cyantraniliprole 19.8% + thiamethoxam 19.8% FS (7.5 ml/kg seed), imidacloprid 48% FS (8 ml/kg seed) and cyantraniliprole 19.8% + thiamethoxam 19.8% FS (6 ml/kg seed) was found effective for the management of sucking pests viz., thrips, whitefly and jassid infesting greengram up to one month after sowing.
