Abstract

The District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Funds established in March 2015 under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act of 1957 represent a pivotal initiative within India's mining landscape.Designed as a non-profit trust, DMF operates in each mining district with a clear mandate to address the historical injustices faced by communities entrenched in poverty and deprivation due to mining activities.Aligned with the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY), a key government scheme launched in September 2015, DMFs are tasked with serving the interests and welfare of individuals and regions impacted by mining operations.The overarching goal is to utilize DMF funds to implement developmental projects, welfare programs and environmental initiatives aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of mining while fostering sustainable livelihood opportunities for affected populations.Through this integrated approach, DMFs strive to alleviate socio-economic disparities, safeguard environmental resource and promote inclusive growth in mining-affected areas across India.This paper analyses the potential and constraints of DMF funding and also providing a complete examination of their role in promoting development in India.
