Abstract

The present experiment was consisting to study the ‘‘Discriminate function analysis in advanced generations for yield and yield contributing traits in okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.)] cross VRO-6 x TCR-1674.” was carried out with F3, F4 and F5 generations during in Summer, 2021-22, Kharif, 2022-23 and Rabi-2022-23 at Horticultural Research Station, Lam, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Discriminant function analysis carried out in F3 generation for four traits namely fruit yield per plant, plant height, number of fruits per plant and ascorbic acid content. In F4 generation, the discriminant functions consisting with six indices of fruit yield per plant, plant height, days to last picking, fruit girth, number of seeds per fruit and ascorbic acid content. Respectively in F5 generation six characters namely fruit yield per plant, plant height, days to first flowering, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight and number of seeds per fruit traits over for direct selection. The relative selection efficiency of the function was found enhancing by increasing the number of characters in the selection index. The selection index involving all the characters were recorded the maximum expected genetic advancement and relative selection efficiency in all these three generations to calculate discriminate functions for constructing and identifying the most efficient selection indices in okra.
