Comparative evaluation of growth, production and carcass traits of Native X PB2 crossbred chicken reared under intensive and village management condition in Chhattisgarh

Abstract

An investigation was carried out to assess the growth, productivity, and carcass characteristics of Native X PB2 crosses, which were created by pairing up indigenous birds of Chhattisgarh with a broiler parent PB2, obtained from the Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad, using both intensive and semi-intensive systems in the state's rural regions. Throughout the study, the body weights of all growth stages of the birds raised under an intensive system were shown to be significantly higher than those of the birds raised under a semi-intensive system. Under intensive and semi-intensive systems, the average daily weight gain was 11.25±0.07 g and 9.46±0.02 g, respectively. A record of the overall mortality percentage was made. The total rate of mortality was found to be 18.33±2.45 percent in the intensive system and 22.50±1.73 percent in the semi-intensive system, respectively. These figures were statistically similar in both rearing systems. In the present investigation, the farm recorded significantly (p<0.01) greater hen day egg production (28.18±1.11, 32.07±0.96, and 31.69±0.90 percent) at 32, 36, and 40 weeks of age compared to the farmer's field (24.83±0.55, 28.45±0.57, and 28.79±0.62 percent), respectively. When compared to semi-intensive systems, the majority of the carcass attributes of Native X PB2 crosses performed somewhat better in intensive systems. The weight of the drumstick (132.85±4.75 g), thigh (129.58±4.64 g), wings (104.04±3.65), neck (73.76±2.59 g), back (309.80±10.15 g), breast (355.77±11.89 g), and dressing percentage (74.19±0.30) were all considerably (p<0.05) higher in the intensive system than in the semi-intensive system.
