Evaluation of winter shelters on the performance of Tellicherry goat kids
Abstract
A study on the growth performance and disease occurrence in kids of Tellicherry goats with winter shelters were conducted during winter season of 2024.The kids were divided into three groups with 12 kids in each groups and grown in open sheds, nest boxes and in polythene coverage.Significant difference in weight gain of kids were realized with kids grown in different shelters. On 90 th day the weight gain of kids with nest box was significantly higher with 9.958 kg0.302.The temperature and relative humidity favoured the gain in body weight. The average favourable temperature and relative humidity of 33.370.43C, 85.100.46%respectively were obtained with plastic coverage but on par with the nest box.The least occurrence of diseases was in nest box followed by kids in polythene coverage indicating winter shelters helps in reduction of disease incidence in kids of Tellicherry goats.
