A descriptive study to assess the food sanitation practices among food handlers at “GNSU” (Rohtas)

Abstract

Introduction: Food sanitation is an important public health issue to prevent or control food- borne illnesses. In response to the increasing number of food-borne illnesses, governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. The World Health Organization (WHO) indicated that each year as many as 600 million people in the world become sick of which 420,000 die after consuming unhygienic food. In the United States, food borne diseases affect an estimated 48 million people every year resulting in 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths. Africa and Southeast Asia are believed that the highest incidence and death rates due to food borne disease. Objective: The present study focuses to determine the food sanitation practices among food handlers at GNSU. Methodology: A quantitative research was adopted were the investigator chosen non- experimental research design. A total of 60 samples were selected through the non-probability purposive sampling technique to find the outcome. Further, data were collected by face-to- face interview method, by using self-structured questionnaire. Data analyzed by using of descriptive as well as inferential statistic, to find the association between the practice score and selected demographic profile regarding the food sanitation. Results: The study reported the practice level, most of the samples, 45(75%) were in average category, followed by 11(18.3%) found to be in good category and lastly, 4(6.7%) were in poor category. Conclusion: Thus, the analysis suggested that there is a need to develop counselling programs where experts can raise the awareness regarding safe food sanitation practice among food handlers.
