A brief review of nutrient content of capsicum (Shimla Mirch)

Abstract

In contemporary times, stress has emerged as a predominant factor contributing to various human diseases. Consequently, scientists are endeavoring to ascertain natural reservoirs of antioxidant compounds. Given that plants abundantly yield antioxidants, they present a reservoir of novel compounds exhibiting promising antioxidant properties, with Capsicum among them. Fresh Capsicum is notably rich in ascorbic acid, numerous carotenoids pigments, and substantial quantities of phenolic compounds. Consumption of these bioactive compounds is associated with the prevention of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, cataracts, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease.
