Assessment of growth performance and screening of French marigold (Tagetes patula L.) genotypes against leaf spot disease

Abstract

The experiment on “Assessment of Growth Performance and Screening of French Marigold (Tagetes patula L.) Genotypes Against Leaf Spot Disease” was carried out at the Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, College of Horticulture, Bagalkot, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, Karnataka. The experiment was laid out in Randomized completely block design with two replications. Among 25 genotypes, genotype Pusa Arpita recorded highest plant height (60.50 cm) followed by IIHRFm-411 (51.90 cm) and UHSFm-6 (48.31 cm). Further, Pusa Arpita had shown greatest plant spread (49.15 cm) in the North-South direction, followed by IIHRFm- 184 (39.80 cm). In Bonanza Mix and UHSFm-10. The highest girth was recorded in Pusa Arpita (13.35 mm) subsequently in IIHRFm-411 (12.17 mm), IC-250303 (8.37 mm). The maximum leaf area was noticed in Pusa Arpita (1586.38 cm2) followed by the genotype Fine Grow Dwarf Mix (1491.38 cm2). Genotypes of French marigold varied significantly with regards to intensity of Alternaria leaf spot. The disease intensity was highest (87.20%) in IC- 250316 followed by IC-250323 (85.20%), IC-250321 (83.20%), Pusa Arpita and IC-250310 (82.00%). There were no genotypes which are resistant.
