Optimizing rooting conditions for Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers) cuttings: Exploring the impact of IBA concentration and growing media

Abstract

Tinospora cordifolia commonly called as Giloy is an important medicinal crop belongs to plant family Menispermaceae and native to India. The seed propagation is meagrely used because of the low viability, low germination percentage and even poor seed set on the plant. Semi-hard wood cuttings are the commercial method of propagation and an investigation was carried on using different concentration of IBA and different rooting media mixture. The experiment results revealed that 200 ppm of IBA performed best in all parameters except number of shoots per cutting where was is resulted best in control plants. Among the different media sand, soil and vermicompost in equal proportions resulted best.
