Annihilating caste, denouncing untouchability: A critical review of select Bengali Dalit stories

Abstract

This article offers a critical analysis of a selection of Bengali Dalit stories written by Achintya Biswas, Nakul Mallick, and Susnata Jana, with an emphasis on the themes of caste annihilation and the denunciation of untouchability. The study delves into the ways in which Bengali Dalit writers challenge and confront the oppressive caste system through an in-depth analysis of these narratives, emphasising the persistent social injustices and systemic discrimination that Dalits encounter. The article analyses the literary strategies implemented by these authors to critique and deconstruct the caste ideology, with a particular emphasis on their endeavours to envision a more equitable society. The review emphasises the significance of Dalit literature in fostering social awareness and promoting a discourse on human rights and equality by bringing these stories to the forefront.
