Assessment of the anti-diabetic potential of Acacia ferruginea stembark ethanolic extract in alloxan induced diabetic rats

Abstract

This study investigates the anti-diabetic efficacy of ethanolic extract from the stem bark of Acacia ferruginea in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Despite advancements in diabetic treatment, the search for more effective and safer plant-based substances continues, given the adverse effects associated with synthetic drugs. Acacia ferruginea, a tree indigenous to various parts of Asia, is traditionally used for its medicinal properties. The experiment utilized male albino Wistar rats, categorically divided to assess the hypoglycemic effect of the plant extract compared with a standard drug (Metformin). The findings indicated that the extract significantly reduced blood glucose levels in diabetic rats, demonstrating potential as an effective natural treatment for diabetes. This corroborates the traditional use of the plant in treating diabetes and suggests a promising area for further research into its bioactive compounds.
