It has deeply influenced India’s history, culture and polity. Of all India’s neighbouring regions, whether across land or maritime frontiers, it is with Central Asia that India has had the longest association, and the most extensive people to people ties. It is from Central Asia that the traditional threats to India’s security have emanated.
