Impact of dietary supplementation of Moringa oleifera leaves extract on oxidative indices of pubertal Marwari rams
Abstract
The current investigation aimed to assess the serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of pubertal Marwari rams using an ethanolic dry extract of Moringa oleifera leaves (MOLEE). A total of twenty-four pubertal rams, aged 7-8 months and with an average body weight of 28 kg, were carefully chosen and randomly divided into four experimental groups, with six rams in each group. Group C received a standard diet without MOLEE supplementation, while groups T1, T2, and T3 were provided with the same standard diet along with MOLEE at doses of 40, 80, and 160 mg/kg body weight respectively, for a duration of 90 days. Blood samples were collected every two weeks, and the serum was separated and stored at -20 °C for subsequent analysis of TAC using the ABTS decolorization assay. The findings revealed that the concentration of TAC (uM) was significantly (p<0.05) higher in groups T3, T2, and T1 compared to group C. This study demonstrates that Moringa oleifera leaf extract can serve as a valuable feed supplement, enhancing sexual maturity and improving the overall antioxidant profile in pubertal Marwari rams.
