Role of medicinal chemistry in the current scenario

Abstract

Medicinal chemistry is defined as an interdependent mature science, a combination applied medicine and basic chemistry that involves discovering, developing, identifying andinterpreting the biologically active compounds. It plays major role in drug research and development by taking advantage of recent technique with advanced knowledge of different branches of related sciences. Since it can be seen as a melting pot of organic chemistry with molecular pharmacology further emphasizes the study of the relationship of drug molecules structural activity so it requires knowledge of chemical and pharmacology concepts. The source of medicinal chemistry lies in all branches of biology and chemistry, which started its journey in the war against various diseases in Ehrlich's hands, who dreamed of a "magic bullet" to combat various infectious diseases. ADMET assessment of therapeutic drug classes influence on therapeutic decision. Top-flight medicinal chemists can play greater roles in improving drug-creation efficiencies and clinical success rates, thereby increasing the overall cost-effectiveness of the enterprise and, in turn, more quickly satisfying unmet medical needs.
