Assessment of efficiency of resources used in Mentha oil production in Sitapur district (U.P.)

Abstract

The study was undertaken to assess the input use efficiency have been computed using primary data collected from 68 Mentha growers spread over two blocks in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The primary data were collected through a personal interview and pretested schedule. The Cobb-Douglas production function is used to estimate the input use efficiency. The value of Coefficient of Multiple Determination (R2) was found to be 0.82 indicating average variable used for Mentha oil production has explained 82.22 percent of variability. While explanatory variable used in production function was very well explained (98.04 percent) followed by small farmers (86.39 percent), marginal farmers (68.30 percent) and large farmers (70.09 percent). The overall variability was denoted by (82.26 percent) for the farms across the group. All the variable has shown positive relation with total production out of which only expenditure incurred on manure & fertilizers and irrigation charges have shown significant relation with Mentha oil production.
