A case review of homoeopathic medicine mercurius solubilis’s effectivity in fissured tongue

Abstract

Fissured tongue is a benign condition which affecting the superficial surface of the tongue. It is frequently seen in general population characterized by grooves which vary in depth and are noted along the dorsal and lateral aspect of the tongue. Patients are usually asymptomatic and the condition usually seen during routine intra-oral examination as an incidental finding. The grooves may look unsettling and the condition is painless, although some individuals may complain of associated burning sensation. The prevalence of fissured tongue worldwide varied by geographic location and has been reported to be as high as 30.5%. In United States it has been reported to 2-5% of population. In India the prevalence of tongue lesion was 12.07% as study reported out of which 14.9% is contributed by fissured tongue and study shows that it is seen in males more often than females. Although fissured tongue may be diagnosed initially during childhood but more frequently diagnosed in adulthood. The prominence of the condition appears to increase with increasing in age. In this case study we present a case of fissured tongue of a boy X yrs. of age managed with Homoeopathic medicine conservatively after case taking.
