Influence of planting geometry and nitrogen levels on quality attributes and economics of rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract

The study investigated agronomical and qualitative features of rice in an eastern Uttar Pradesh. Field trials were designed in Split plot Design (SPD) with 3 replications at the Agronomy Research Farm, Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Ayodhya, (U.P.) during kharif season of 2017. There are 4 planting geometry (15x10cm, 15x15cm, 20x10cm and 20x15cm) and 4 Nitrogen levels (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1)in this experiment. The crop received a total rainfall of 804.9mm while the evaporation was 869.7 mm mm during the entire crop season. The highest fertility levels of nitrogen i.e. 180 kg ha-1 recorded significantly higher yield, quality parameters and B: C ratio over rest of the nitrogen levels. Among the planting geometry 20x10cm significantly higher biological yield and quality parameters over 20x15cm, 15x10cm and 15x15cm. The planting geometry 20x10cm recorded highest gross return, net return and benefit: cost ratio was associated with highest levels of nitrogen application i.e. 180kg N ha-1.
