Brussels sedation scale when different doses of dexmedetomidine is used with propofol as an inducing agent

Abstract

Dexmedetomidine, a highly selective α2 – adrenergic receptor agonist with sedative and analgesic properties is used as an anesthetic adjunct. We determined the effects of different Dexmedetomidine doses with propofol on Brussels sedation scale post operatively. Propofol is one of the most commonly used intravenous anaesthetic agent. Propofol when administered singly, the drug produces minimal and brief analgesia. Depending on the dose used, propofol can result in excessive depth of sedation, which may be associated with clinically significant cardiovascular and pulmonary depression or insufficient deep sedation. In order to overcome these drawbacks, sedatives and analgesics have been co-administered with propofol for induction of anesthesia. The present research is aimed to know the effects of different doses Dexmedetomidine used with propofol on Brussels sedation scale in the postoperative period.
