Clinical and radiological outcome of modified trochanteric wiring in fresh and failed Intertrochanteric fractures of femur during hip arthroplasty

Abstract

Background: Femoral intertrochanteric fractures are common in the elderly population. Trochanteric reconstruction is very vital in these type of fracture. various technique is described for trochanteric fixation. In our study, we used modified trochanteric wiring for reconstruction of greater trochanter during hip arthroplasty in intertrochanteric fracture of femur. Objective: To assess prospectively and retrospectively, post-operative functional and radiological outcome of modified trochanteric wiring in fresh and failed intertrochanteric fracture of femur during hip arthroplasty in a tertiary care centre with follow-up upto 1 year. Result: In our study mean HHS at 3 months follow-up was 79.34, mean HHS at 6 months follow-up was 84.87, mean HHS at 1 year follow-up was 86.76.
