Survival rate and growth performances of post-larvae of the African Cyprinidae Labeobarbus batesii (Boulenger, 1903) with different type of food.

Abstract

In view of contributing to the domestication of Labeobabus batesii, the survival and growth performances of post-larvae according to the type of food were studied between November and December 2019. A total of 1200 post-larvae (150 ± 20 mg), grouped in four batches and distributed randomly in 8 tanks (250 ind / m3), respectively received the compound food (T1), Artemia (T2), cooked egg yolk (T3) and freshwater zooplankton (T4). The results show that: the survival rate and growth performances were significantly (p≤0.05) influenced by the type of food. With the exception of the nutrient quotient whose highest significant (p≤0,05) value was obtained with the egg yolk, the values ​​of the other characteristics were significantly higher (p≤0, 05) with Artemia and the lowest values ​​with freshwater zooplankton. Regardless of the type of food, the post-larvae exhibited minorant allometric growth.
