Spatio-temporal variations in surface water quality parameters of Kameng drainage, Eastern Himalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, India

Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine the spatio-temporal variations in surface water quality at selected locations of Kameng drainage. Water samples were analysed in four different seasons (Premonsoon, Monsoon, Postmonsoon and Winter) at six stations located at various altitudes (Shergaon, Dirang, Sangti, Rupa, Munna Camp and Tenga) during 2018-2019. All the water quality parameters (water temperature (7.7-17 oC), dissolved oxygen (7.1-9.8 mg/l), pH (6.1-7.8), total dissolved solids (14-80 ppm), hardness (19-64 mg/l), alkalinity (23-83 mg/l), phosphorus (0.07-0.78 mg/l), ammonium (0.01-0.55 mg/l), nitrite (0.03-0.83 mg/l), nitrate (0.16-2.85 mg/l) were found within the permissible limit, suitable for development of riverine flora and fauna including fishes.
