Genetic variability and heritability studies in flue cured Verginia tobacco (Nicotiana tobaccum L.) germplasm

Abstract

The present investigation undertaken to study the genetic variability and heritability forvarious quantitative traits of eighty-four genotypes of FCV tobacco were evaluated during Kharif 2019 in RCBD design with two replications. The obtained results indicated that the phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the characters across the genotypes. However, the differences between them were narrow indicating the lesser role of environment. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as per cent mean was observed for the characters viz. days to flowering, green leaf yield and cured leaf yield. Low heritability coupled with genetic advance was recorded for leaf area and number of leaves per plant.
