Correlation and path analysis in pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum(L). R. Br.] hybrids

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the correlation and path coefficients in 60 hybrids of pearl millet. Significant and positive correlation at phenotypic level were observed for biological yield per plant (g), harvest index (%), number of effective tillers per plant, ear head length (cm), plant height, test weight (g) and days to maturity. The path coefficient analysis at genotypic level revealed that the characters viz., biological yield per plant had exhibited largest direct effect on grain yield per plant followed by harvest index (%), test weight (g), ear head length (cm) and number of effective tillers per plant. The path coefficient analysis at phenotypic level revealed that the characters viz., biological yield per plant had exhibited largest direct effect on grain yield per plant followed by harvest index (%), days to 50 per cent flowering and ear head length (cm).
