Growth and yield of tomato as influenced by potassium and secondary nutrients

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to develop potassium and secondary nutrients management recommendation to maximize growth and yield of tomato. The study was conducted in a low base status soil of Sivagangai district to assess the effect of polysulphate and potassium chloride (MoP) fertilizers on growth and yield of tomato. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications, which included five graded levels of potassium treatments (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 per cent soil test based K through two sources i.e., polysulphate and MoP). The results revealed that application of K as polysulphate (PS) significantly increased plant height, number of branches, stem girth, number of flowers, clusters and fruits, fruit weight and yield of tomato as compared to muriate of potash and control. Among the treatments, application of 125 per cent soil test based K (STB-K) through polysulphate surpassed all the other treatments in term of growth and yield parameters.
