Development of grade-II chronic renal failure model in black Bengal goat for pharmacokinetic studies

Abstract

An animal model of chronic renal failure condition in caprine was created for pharmacokinetic studies. 15 goats were divided into 5 equal groups. Cisplatin (1mg ml-1) administered at 30 mg m-2 intravenously bi-weekly for 28 days gave standard results for grade-II CRF. Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Plasma Creatinine (CRT) and Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) were monitored for 91 days on weekly basis. BUN and CRT started to increase significantly from 7 days post dosing and maintained a significantly higher value till the end of the observation period.
