Effect of different aqueous plant extracts against the various isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense causing Panama wilt of banana

Abstract

In Bihar, banana production is categorised into two regions viz., Vaishali belt and Koshi belt. Vaishali belt confined only tall group of banana cultivar where as Koshi belt rich with dwarf Cavendish group of banana cultivars. Panama wilt disease of banana is become serious threat among the banana growers due to introduction of new pathogenic variability in agroecological condition of Bihar and developed fear in banana industry. That why efforts were made for the management of this highly virulent form pathogenic variability i.e. Tropical race 4 strain B2.Consdering this view, efficacy of five aqueous plant extracts viz. Garlic creeper (Adenocalymma alliaceum), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Garlic (Allium sativum), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) and Makoi (Solanum nigrum) were tested against the different isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc) in laboratory condition as well as under pot condition against the Iso. G (Tropical race 4 strain B2). Among all the extract, the Garlic creeper (Adenocalymma alliaceum) was found most effective against all the isolates of Foc followed by Garlic (Allium sativum), Neem (Azadirachta indica) and Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) under laboratory condition. Aqueous extracts of Garlic creeper (Adenocalymma alliaceum) was found moderately effective and other plant extracts were found less effective against the pathogenic race of Foc (Tropical race 4 strain B2) under artificial pot condition. The aqueous extract of Makoi (Solanum nigrum) was found least effective against all the isolates of Foc in laboratory condition as well as in pot condition.
