Effect of different weed management practices on yield and economics in turmeric (Curcuma longa L.)

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during Kharif season in 2016-17 at Kumarganj, Ayodhya. The experiment consist of five treatments of which two mulch treatments of 5 t/ha and 10 t/ha paddy straw and three non-mulch treatments i.e. four conventional handweedings alone, herbicide (Metribuzin as P.E.) with two handweedings and weedy check. Among all the weed managements practices mulch application of 10 t/ha paddy straw registered maximum fresh rhizome yield @ 32.9 t/ha followed by 5 t/ha paddy straw over non mulched treatment. Economic analysis revealed that maximum net return (Rs. 1,98,170) and B.C ratio (1.51) observed in the treatment applying paddy straw mulch @ 10 t/ha followed by paddy straw mulch @ 5 t/ha.
