Evaluation of wheat (Triticum aestivum) genotypes under different dates of sowing in Telangana

Abstract

An experiment on evaluation of wheat genotypes for different dates of sowing under irrigated conditions was conducted during rabi seasons of 2010-11 and 2011-12 at Agricultural Research Institute, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad Telangana. The experiment was laid out in Split Plot Design at four different dates of sowing viz., 1st November, 16th November, 1st December and 15th December under three different genotypes viz., Raj 4037, HP 4080 and PDW 315. Two years pooled data revealed that tiller number and panicle number were significantly higher in early sown dates (November 1st sown - November 16th Sown) than later dates (December 1st sown - December 16th sown). Whereas filled grains/ panicle and 1000 grain weight were significantly higher upto December 1st sown crop than later date of sowing. November 16th sown crop recorded significantly higher grain yield (3676 kg ha-1) over November 1st and December 16th sowing dates and was comparable with 1st December sowing date (3282 kg ha-1). Grain yield was non-significant among varieties. Pooled interaction data was significant between dates of sowing and varieties. HP4080 sown during November 16th sown recorded significantly higher grain yield than other treatment combinations and it was comparable with PDW 315 and HP 4080 sown during November 16th and December 1st sown except Raj 4037 sown during December 1st.
