The succession of insect pest complex on brinjal at central Narmada Valley region (Madhya Pradesh)

Abstract

An experimental trial was conducted to know the succession of insect pest complex of brinjal at central Narmada Valley region consecutively for two years during Rabi season 2018-19 and 2019-20 at BRAUSS campus, Mhow, MP, India. Results revealed that the first appearance of jassid on brinjal was observed at 10 DAT (40th SMW) and 17 DAT (41th SMW) during first and second year, respectively. Whereas, the first occurrence of whitefly was recorded on brinjal at 14 DAT (40th SMW) and 10 DAT (40th SMW) during first and second year, respectively. The population of aphid on brinjal was first observed at 21 DAT (41th SMW) and 17 DAT (41th SMW) during first and second year, respectively. Further, the first appearance of green stink bug on brinjal was observed at 40 DAT (44th SMW) and 32 DAT (43th SMW) during first and second year. While, both the year, the population of Hadda beetle was first observed at 80 DAT (50th SMW) at fruiting stage of the crop and was present up to the last week of February (9th SMW). The first incidence of L. orbonalis on brinjal was observed on the crop at 55 DAT (44th SMW) and 38 DAT (44th SMW) in first and second year, respectively. All the insect pest population was remained up to harvesting of the crop. Similarly the natural enemies of insect pests i.e. the first occurrence of lady bird beetle was observed on the brinjal crop at 43 DAT (44th SMW) and 24 DAT (43th SMW) during first and second year, respectively. While, the first occurrence of green lacewing was recorded at 80 DAT (50th SMW) and 32 DAT (43th SMW) during first and second year, respectively, and its population was remained up to availability of the pests.
