Effect of sixteen genotype correlation on different characters of Jatropha (Jatropha curcas Linn.)
Abstract
Our human race is achieving throttling advancement in modern scenario which leads to crisis of petroleum based oil which bound us to the pavement for search of biodiesel. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel for diesel engine. The paper investigates the prospect of making cultivation & economic analysis of biodiesel from Jatropha oil. Jatropha is a renewable non edible plant which grows in arid & semi-arid region of the country on degraded soils having low fertility & moisture. Jatropha seeds contains 50%-60% oil which after three years of cultivation have an oil yield of 1.2-2.5 tons per hectare & the by-product of this biodiesel is glycerine which has different applications. Hence an experiment was conducted in two years during 2013-14 to 2014-15 using sixteen genotypes of Jatropha. Based on the result obtained from this investigation, it may be concluded that the mean performances of 16 genotypes for 16 characters are given in Table 1. The highest plant height was obtained in the genotypes TFRI- 07 and constituted the top significant group for plant height along with six genotypes. Among the maximum plant height three most promising genotypes in order of merit were PDKV-NOV-19, TNCJC-23 and RJ-92.
