Effect of slow release nitrogenous fertilizers on yield and nutrient uptake of maize-onion cropping sequence on inceptisol

Abstract

The field experiment was conducted at STCR Research Farm, M.P.K.V., Rahuri on Inceptisol during kharif (Maize ) and rabi (onion) seasons during 2015-16 and 2016-17 with view to study “Effect of slow release nitrogenous fertilizers on soil yield and nutrient uptake of maize-onion cropping sequence on Inceptisol” The results obtained in this study showed that the application of nitrogen through neem coated and sulphur coated urea as well as through crotonylidine diaurea to maize are equally beneficial for higher grain and straw yield. The residual effect of treatment 50% RDN- Urea + 50% CDU was significantly superior for onion bulb yield (33.35 t ha-1) during 2015-16. The residual effect of 50% RDN-Urea+ 50% SCU was significantly higher for onion bulb yield (30.01 t ha-1) during 2016-17. The total nutrient uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and micronutrient (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu) by maize was significantly higher in recommended dose of nitrogen through neem coated urea. The macro and micronutrient uptake in succeeding onion crop was influenced by the residual effect of slow release nitrogenous fertilizers in maize-onion cropping sequence.
