Combining ability analysis for grain yield and quality characters in aromatic rice (Oryza sativa)

International Journal of Chemical Studies · 2018 · Vol. 6(5) · pp. 3185–3189

Abstract

Eight rice genotypes were selected to produce 28 F1 partial diallel crosses. Predominance of non-additive gene action was recorded for all the characters except for panicle length and 1000 grain weight. Akshyadhan, Basmati 370 and Sumathi were proved to be good combiners for grain yield as well as its prime component traits like panicle length, panicle weight, filled grains per panicle and 1000 grain weight. BPT 5204 x Pusa 1121, BPT 5204 x Akshyadhan, RNR 2354 x Improved Pusa Basmati and Akshyadhan x Pusa 1121 were found to be the best specific crosses, as they had performed exceedingly well for yield as well as for quality parameters.
