Geometric studies on growth and yield parameters of mulberry and its impacts on performance of silkworm hybrid Bombyx mori. L.
Abstract
Experiment was conducted in the Agricultural Research Station, Raddewadgi, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur on Geometric studies on Mulberry varieties. The results revealed that the Mulberry variety vishala planted in paired row system of (3+3)X5 feet spacing recorded maximum growth parameters viz shoot height (169 cm), No.of shoots per plant (7.75), Fresh leaf weight (618 gm/100 leaves) and leaf yield (62.28 tons/ha) followed by V1 mulberry variety under pit system(3X3 feet) of cultivation. The growth and yield parameters recorded were minimum in Suvarna-2 mulberry variety cultivated in row system (2X2 feet). Further the minimum larval duration, (24.63 days), higher mature larval weight (4.3 gm/larva), Effective Rate of Rearing (ERR of 96.50%) and more cocoon yield 68.25 kg/100 DFL’s) was obtained when silkworm rearing was conducted by feeding leaves from vishala mulberry variety grown in paired row system when compared to other mulberry varieties and planting system. The result clearly indicated the vishala variety under paired row system shoot for Gulburga region.
