Study on hybrid evaluation & ascertaining suitable brushing date for autumn cocoon crop under subtropical condition of Jammu (J & K)

Abstract

A diagnostic study was conducted for selection of better hybrid with suitable brushing date to improve silkworm rearing and cocoon crop under sub tropical condition of Jammu division of J&K. Objective of the study was to evaluate silkworm hybrids and find out suitable date of brushing for autumn crop which is yet to be stabilized in North West India.13 hybrids were reared during first batch of autumn season (2018), brushed on 05.09.2018 (First brushing), according to evaluation index for the hybrids analyzed for desired economic parameters both quantity and quality, hybrids showing the index value above 50 shortlisted as FC5×FC6, DUN17×DUN18, FC1×FC2, PM×FC2 and SH6×NB4D2. Second brushing was taken on 15.09.2018 with 12 hybrids during autumn (2018). Hybrids showing the index value above 50 shortlisted as DUN17×DUN18, FC5×FC6, S8×CSR16, SH6×NB4D2, B.con1×B.con4, and FC1×FC2. Date of brushing of 15th September was found suitable as compare to traditional date 5th of September.
