Variation in the Susceptibility of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) Genotypes to yellow vein mosaic virus disease under field condition

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out to screen 14 okra genotypes for YVMV resistance. The per cent plant infection and the reaction of the genotypes were assessed based on the disease incidence and response value assigned by each severity grade. Among 14 genotypes during 2015-16, 2014/OKYV RES-5 exhibited very less (1.3) percent disease incidence which was statistically at par with 2014/OKYV RES-11 (1.4%), 2014/OKYV RES-3 (3.0%), 2014/OKYV RES-6 (4.4%), 2014/OKYV RES-10 (8.8%), 2014/OKYV RES-9 (12.5%) and 2014/OKYV RES-4 (13.0%) and this genotype was statistically superior over the remaining genotypes. The genotypes viz. Arka Abhay (34.1%), Arka Anamika (38.2%), 2014/OKYV RES-2 (50.9%), 2014/OKYV RES-8 (60.3%) and2014/OKYV RES-1(66.7%) exhibited intermediate to high range of percent disease incidence. VRO-6 and 2014/OKYV RES-7 registered very high percent of disease incidence 78.2% and 76.5% respectively. It was observed that 2014/OKYV RES-5, 2014/OKYV RES-1, 2014/OKYV RES-3, 2014/OKYV RES-6, 2014/OKYV RES-10, 2014/OKYV RES-9 and 2014/OKYV RES-4 were found to be highly resistant while VRO- 6 and 2014/OKYV RES-7 were found highly susceptible to YVMV.
