Studies on correlation and path analysis for horticultural traits in Garden pea (Pisum sativum L. var. Hortense)

Abstract

Garden pea (Pisum sativum L. var. hortense) is an important legume vegetable grown throughout the world. The materials for the present study comprised of twenty germplasm of garden pea, which were planted in Randomized Block Design and replication thrice at vegetable Research form, Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj. Correlation coefficients were calculated for all quantitative character combinations at phenotypic and genotypic level. The correlation studies provide information about association between any two characters. Height of plant, number of branches per plant, moisture per cent, number of nodes per plant and number of pods per plant exhibited significant correlation for pod yield and these can be considered for identification of high yielding genotypes. The path analysis revealed that focusing on height of plant and number of branches per plant could improve breeding efficiency of pea.
