Light interception under different training system and high density planting in fruit crops

Abstract

Light is very essential for photosynthesis that convert the carbon dioxide and water in to carbohydrates. The interception of light in fruit crops affect size, shape and quality of fruits. So improvement light penetration within tree canopies has been a constant objective of fruit tree architecture manipulation through the different planting system and planting densities. The availability and utilization of photo synthetically active radiation (PAR) are the important factors that limit plant productivity. Tree size, planting geometry, spacing and training system, all have a dominant effect on the light conditions within the tree canopy. Light penetration and light interception are most considering factors under high density planting. Light is the one and only limiting factor in high density planting. It is the source of energy for photosynthesis, which influence flowering, fruit set and improve fruit quality and color development.
